Matias Garcia
Age 24
Born August 10, 1993, Malaga, Spain
Height 5'8 Weight 170lb
Matias was born into a middle class family in the city and set out for an education to be a doctor early on, wanting to help the world through the rising science of modern medicine. Sadly, all that changed when...he did. Whisked away by familiar strangers for a year, he proved that he had what it took to join the breed and returned to begin a new life as a member of the Qualmi, werelynx. Misfortune was not done with the young cat quite yet though, as over the years he had to live through the most trying time imaginable: The rapid decline of your species.
Born to the Iberian Peninsula on which resides Spain and Portugal, the Iberiain Lynx med one calamity after another as disease ruined their food source and the ever constant encroaching of man killed off the exotic species by the thousands over the years, until his quietly counted his blessing at being allowed a 12th birthday while there were less than 100 of his species alive and that he was the last surviving Iberian Qualmi. This time was spent between foster care and living in the wild with the lynx, trying to protect them from the perils of cars and poachers alike, and as such grew up a young dedicated man with a cause.
By 18 he had become one of the project coordinators for the El Acebuche Breeding Center in the Donana Nature Park in Huelva, having learned that they had been working on breeding the lynx in captivity with some success. Securing his status there, Matias waited and watched over the births, hoping for another shifter but to no avail. Finally, he decided to take matters into his own hands and sneaked into the enclosure to mate with the female in the program.
Sadly, while this resulted in cubs for the species at large, none has the scent of the Qualmi Matias sought. When the female, Saliega, was retired in 2013 he began looking at alternative locations for his species to live as he feared their small numbers -while growing- was still very much threatened by poachers and disease. And so for the next few years he reached out, trying to contact other Qualmi elsewhere in the world that might help. Finally his prayers were answered by a email from the Sept of the Twilight Dawn, speaking of their wildlife preserve for, and operated by, Bastet. Overjoyed, Matias began preparations to bring a mated pair and their two cubs with him on the relocation journey to help stave off extinction of his people.
